Fyra fiskebåtar som fiskar räkor under estländsk flagg erhåller MSC-märkning:
Shrimp from the Barents Sea fishery, sold in Scandinavia, throughout Europe, Russia, Japan and China, will now be eligible to bear the MSC eco-label.
“This is the first Estonian fishery to achieve MSC certification and we look forward to welcoming other fisheries from the Baltic States in the near future,” said Minna Epps, manager for MSC, Baltic Sea region.
Certification to the MSC standard confirms that the stock is being managed at a healthy level, and the fishery has no unsustainable impacts on the wider marine ecosystem.
The cold water shrimp stock in the Barents Sea (Pandalus borealis) is very abundant, reports MSC. Total catches in the fishery have, since 2006, been significantly below the permitted levels and the stock level has been close to the maximum that the ecosystem can support throughout the history of the fishery.
Så estländska är nu inte de aktuella fiskebåtarna eller det aktuella räkfisket, utan det handlar om fiske i Barents Hav och Ishavet efter räkor med 3 fiskebåtar som tillhör isländska fiskeriföretaget Reyktal. Deras tre båtar är Taurus på 1 780 ton, Ontika på 1 410 ton och Eldborg på 1 403. Den fjärde båten är sannolikt Reval Viking på 2 350 ton som sannolikt är kontrollerad av det norska företaget Remøy Sea Group AS via Reval Seafood Ltd.
