Scapeche är Frankrikes största fiskeriföretag. Dhellemmes är kanske det tredje största och ägs av nederländska Cornelis Vrolijk/jJaczon. Bägge företagen har ägnat sig åt bottentrålning i djuphaven och Scapeche har åtagit sig att sluta med det. Det har lett till att Scapeche inlett en omstrukturering av sin fiskeflotta som bland annat inkluderar båtinköp och ombyggnad av båtar:
The company is investing a total of approximately €25 million over three years (2013-2015) in its fleet, said Scapeche’s CEO Fabien Dulon.
The investments cover acquisitions, such as that of the Dhellemmes trawlers, as well as other acquisitions and newbuilds, Dulon told Undercurrent News.
One of these newbuilds is currently under construction in Spain, at the Armon shipyard. A 42-meter trawler named Jean-Pierre le , it is expected to be ready in August 2015. Scapeche is also investing to convert its old 33-meter trawler Heliotrope into a freezer longliner, to catch for deep-sea species in northern Scotland.
“Scapeche will start operating, as of October 2014, a longliner of 33 meters, a former trawler being converted in Spain,” said Dulon. “The idea is to draw inspiration from Norwegian techniques of automatic baiting.”
Dhellemmes och Cornelis Vrolijk håller för sin del på att avveckla sin verksamhet inom den del av fisket som inte är pelagisk:
Cornelis Vrolijk is mainly active in pelagics, including in small pelagics in the Netherlands, but also in France through its subsidiary Pelagique.
The Dutch company cited a wish to position itself on new projects.
The sale of the trawlers is the result of economic and social factors, said Antoine Dhellemmes, on behalf of Cornelis Vrolijk. The trawlers fit perfectly within Scapeche’s strategy and fleet and the agreement to preserve jobs was key to agree on a deal, he added.
The announcement did not specify the value of the deal. Also omitted was whether Scapeche would relocate the vessels to its base in Lorient, from their current base some 55 kilometers further north, Concarneau.
Fears of a relocation had prompted captains of the ship to mount a counter offer for the vessels, but this was dropped in May. Their offer had been reported to be worth €12 million to €15m.
Förhandlingar har pågått en tid mellan Scapeche och Dhellemmes om att det förstnämnda företaget ska ta över fiskebåtar från det andra. Enligt uppgifter i media har samtalen rört 4 trålare och tre snörpvadsbåtar.
Om de 4 trålarna, Roselend, Corail, Iroise och Saint-Gothard har de två företagen kommit överens, Scapeche ska köpa dem. Hur det gått med samtalen kring de tre snörpvadsbåtarna War Raog III, War Roag IV and Berceau de l’Ocean är oklart:
As part of the deal, all employees onboard the boats will keep their jobs. The change of ownership will happen within three weeks, said Scapeche.
Scapeche has been reported to be in talks to acquire up to seven of Dhellemmes’ nine vessels since February.
Talks were said to also cover the acquisition of three of Dhellemmes’ seiners: War Raog III and IV and Berceau de l’Ocean. However, these were not mentioned in the companies’ announcement on June 19.
Scapeche är alltså redan Frankrikes överlägset största fiskeriföretag och blir än större med det nya köpte. Bolaget ägs av den stora varuhuskedjan Intermarché.
